中研院研究癌症出現重大突破。中央研究院分子生物研究所助研究員陳律佑及其團隊，近期發現「染色體外端粒DNA」，能誘發細胞後天免疫反應，進而抑制ALT癌細胞生長，有助發展針對特定癌細胞的免疫治療。陳律佑指出，這是端粒生物學上的重要發現，更是癌症治療的新契機，若能修復關鍵的感知蛋白，就有機會重啟人體免疫系統，釋放干擾素來抑制ALT癌細胞生長。

中央研究院28日舉行「發現癌細胞迴避免疫系統關鍵機制，有助發展癌症免疫治療」記者會。陳律佑表示，癌細胞可分為有端粒酶的癌細胞、無端粒酶的「替代性延長端粒癌細胞」（英文簡稱ALT）兩類，後者在各類型癌症腫瘤平均約占1、2成，但在兒童腦瘤、軟組織瘤與骨癌等癌症患者身上，可能占達6、7成。

陳律佑指出，研究團隊發現正常的人類細胞若有游離在細胞核外的「染色體外端粒DNA」，會誘發後天免疫反應，釋放抑制病毒的干擾素，進而抑制細胞的複製，但值得注意的是，這套機制卻未出現在ALT細胞，這是因為ALT細胞中關鍵的感知蛋白（STING蛋白及組蛋白H3.3）受到了抑制或有功能缺失，因此無法限制細胞生長，使得ALT細胞得以持續發展成癌症。

陳律佑說，團隊正朝該方向努力，以動物模式進行研究，同時也與高雄長庚醫院合作，應用真正的人體癌細胞進行實驗。目前該研究成果於本月初發表於《自然-結構與分子生物學》期刊。
